Echoes of Civil War Women
Kim's The Civil War: Now That Was a Challenge
Guin and Kim have put up a YouTube tour of their group show at the San Diego Quilt Show last week.
Click here to see a six and a half minute video of the eight quilts that the group from Scissorhands made.
Echoes of Civil War Women is based on a block exchange. In 2008, Bettina, Brenda, Carmel, Debra H., Guin, Janet L. and Pam exchanged blocks made in Civil War reproduction prints and drawn from the book The Civil War Diary . Kim wrote she wasn't that interested in reproductions when they began---but she must have found out that purple was a popular mid-19th century shade as she seems to have gotten into the project.

Chickens
Nancy H., The Year of the Chick II 1993
"Made for Gabriel, born in the Year of the Rooster. It's a counting game. See how many eggs you can find."
Just Us Chicks 1995
Nancy and Rhoda
"Inspired by a photo in a National Geographic magazine of a West Virginian woman with her crazy quilt and chickens, these birds wonder if bright fabrics and embroidered flowers are tasty."
Sitting Pretty 1995
"Rhoda decreed that the bottom of [the quilt above], which I had laboriously embroidered, had to go. I salvaged this hem and made a story: the little red hen (Rhoda) keeps us all in line."

Joe Boxer Fabric
Sirius the Dog Star
by the Sewhatevers
Remember years ago when the Joe Boxer company gave someone (Deanna I bet) a bunch of factory cutaways. I think we bought them at the auction.
Carol J. has saved hers all this time and when we were looking for an idea for an animal quilt to benefit the Lawrence Humane Society she pulled it out.
The Joe Boxer print is the giant running hound that looks a lot like Sarah the dog, who came from the Humane Society.
Don't even ask why she's on the table.
